An Interview with the Lunarpages’ Sales Director

Louie DiGiorno has been a vital member of the LP team for almost 4 years and he is well regarded and loved by not only his clients, but the entire staff at Lunarpages. We chat with Louie and learn more about history, geekiness and thoughts on the Lunar environment.

What is your official job title here at LP?

Director of Sales, but if something needs to be swept, hand me a broom.

Fill us in on your day to day tasks.

As the Sales Manager in charge of all sales activities, departments and personnel involved in sales for the Company, I provide leadership to the day-to-day operations of the sales department, while maintaining focus on the company’s strategic goals. On a daily basis, I seek out and target new customers and new sales opportunities, initiate action plans to approach and secure new business for the company. I monitor sales staff performance on a continual basis and encourage my account managers by personally setting the pace in the department.

Have you worked in any other departments at Lunarpages?

Unfortunately no I haven’t. Eventually I will attend CSR (customer support representative) training and would then gladly sit in on a shift or two as a CSR just to better appreciate what our support department endures to maintain customer satisfaction 24/7/365.

What did you do before Lunarpages?

Prior to real estate, I worked for First Team in Corona CA. The economic depression in 2007 basically provided me with two options and government cheese wasn’t that appealing. So I reentered the job market and was lucky to find Lunarpages.

What made you decide to join our Family?

Prior to my Real Estate gig, I worked in the manufacturing industry for 20 years specifically providing engineering products to high tech companies like Dell, Intel and Motorola. I have a minor in Engineering, and have a compassion for technology. Being an EverQuest and World of Warcraft geek, I have a compassion for computers as well. Lunarpages offers a comprehensive service that embraces a very large prospect base or demographic which is very attractive to any consummate sales guy. Being involved with technology, computers and a product I could sell to just about any company was just too intoxicating.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

Learning what the heck web hosting was. When I first interviewed with Lunarpages, I studied web hosting and memorized a few industry buzz words. During the initial interview I forgot everything except the term colocation which of course I used frequently but misplaced. In my 3.75 years with Lunarpages, I’ve learned volumes from my peers and simple OJT. I’ve since returned to school where I attend UOP seeking my BS in IT and Business Communications. Let’s just say, I’ve gotten better.

What sets Lunarpages apart from other web hosting providers?

Lunarpages is large enough to be considered a world class hosting company, but we are small enough to have adopted an approachable friendly demeanor which attracts business relationships and catches the attention of our clients. Lunarpages incorporates my most sacred sales philosophy, “Make what we do about the client”.

What do you think is our most superior hosting offering and why?

Xen Dedicated Clusters. The use of virtualization and automation technologies allows ease of expansion and creation of clusters. Cloud is the evolution of clustering, and can be broken up into three segments: Load Balancing/Failover, Resources (CPU, and Memory), and Storage. This hosting platform will sustain large volumes of traffic.

If you weren’t working here, where do you think you’d be?

No doubt I would have continued to pursue a career in Real Estate with a focus on industrial properties.

You work at our Anaheim Corporate Office; tell us about the most entertaining employee there.

Hands down it’s Orlando Casas. I could tell you stories that would split your side, but must plead the 5th.

Can you share some interesting information about the Anaheim Corporate Office?

One day one of our staff came into the office wearing a company T-Shirt and Jacket half way zipped up. Rodger walked up to her, stared at her shirt and seeing three exposed letters asked, “What does ARP mean”? Laughing, she unzipped her jacket and replied, “Lun (Arp) ages”. Rodger’s nickname is now, A.R.P.

What do you see as the future of hosting technology in 2011 and beyond?

I believe virtual computing is the future. VMware or virtual servers provide a greater flexible and offer low cost set-up for small start-up companies. Storage technology developments are also improving. With the coupling of flash and hard drive technology, I see a change to solid state drives as relative means to support VMware systems.

What do you like to do in any other spare time you find?

Get wrapped up in a good book. I love to read.

If you were to be famous what would you like to be known for?

Medical advancements like curing cancer and heart disease.

And now for some usual LP Fun, what (or who) is your favorite and why…

I have the privilege to work with an exceptional team at Lunarpages, which encompasses a myriad of personalities, but when it comes to LP fun, Rodger is usually involved in most of our water cooler stories. When Live Chat was relatively new and the sales staff was finding their legs, Keith accepted a chat. After a series of closed in responses, the client asks him, “Are you a bot?” Keith  replies, “A what?” Client restates, “Are you a robot?” Keith replies, “No I’m human”. Client says, “Are you sure”?

Animal?

My Chow “Keyta”. When she died, Keyta left a hole in my heart I can’t fill or replace. We were loyal to each other.

Superhero?

Hancock: “All of you people, blocking the intersection, you’re all idiots”.

Place to live?

Northern California. Someplace along the Sacramento River where I can fish or swim off my own boat dock.

Place to vacation?

My own backyard, but since I’ve never been to New Zealand, I would love to visit.

Movie?

Lord of the Rings Trilogy. “You shall not pass”.

Celebrity?

Sorry, I can’t tolerate celebs. If I pay for a ticket, they better not suck. Aside from that I don’t care to hear about them.

Hobby?

My Grandson Gaige. We do everything together.

Video game?

World of Warcraft. “No Charlie Sheen, I am a Warlock”.

Thanks Louie!
