Site of the Month – April 2011
With a name like “My Tummy Talks to Me” you would think it’s a food site or something relating to nutrition right? Wrong! We chat with Adrian, our Site of the Month winner and find out more about his portfolio site made to showcase the best of his web, print and photography works.
How long have you hosted your site with Lunarpages and which hosting plan are you using?
Adrian: Since 2006, I think it’s the basic plan.
Describe your average visitor to mytummytalkstome.com.
Adrian: Prospective clients, stumblers, flickr drifters and people I meet around the city.
Tell us a bit about your site and what you do there.
Adrian: It’s a portfolio site made to show the best of my web, print and photography. I keep it updated with my latest work and happenings.
Tell us about the design of your site. Did you design it yourself?
Adrian: I must have went through 5 different layouts before choosing the current one. The site is somewhat minimalist with artistic details all around, it uses HTML, CSS, Jquery and some PHP.
How did you come up with the name My Tummy Talks to Me? Is there a story behind it?
Adrian: I’ve had a gluten allergy all my life, which would cause my stomach to grumble a lot before I found out about the allergy, hence the tummy talking. This name also became relevant when I started working as a graphic/web designer in the food industry, so I stuck with it and turned it into a brand.
Are you using WordPress to run your blog? If yes, is it a custom theme?
Adrian: I use wordpress on my site in two ways. 1. As a straightforward blog with a free wp theme @ blog.mytummytalkstome.com and 2. As a cms, by grabbing the main blog feed and pushing it to my blog page through a simple php code seen here: http://mytummytalkstome.com/blog.php
What program do you primarily use to design or create graphics?
Adrian: All adobe has to offer although, I always start with paper and pencil.
Can you share with us your proudest piece of work?
Adrian: I just finished a clients website, www.ernestorosas.com.
Do you prefer to design or to take portraits?
Adrian: I love the freedom and art of taking portraits, but design can be used in all walks of life, it’s problem solving for any medium.
Does your online business sustain your lifestyle or do you have an additional job?
Adrian: I work full time as a graphic/web designer for a group of restaurants in NYC. Being sustained full-time gives me the the freedom to pick and choose interesting jobs as a freelancer and keeps me working almost all the time.
How has the internet helped your business?
Adrian: By allowing instant feedback on my photos/designs, collaborating with others on projects/developments and finding inspiration when the well is dry.
How do you prefer to spend your offline time?
Adrian: When I’m not snapping photos, I’m relaxing or out biking around the city.
Do you use Twitter for fun or business?
Adrian: Both
Now, let’s have a bit of fun.

Adrian: I wish I could keep up with music. Radiohead’s new album is pretty good.
Twitter or Facebook?
Adrian: I check Facebook more than twitter.
Favorite phone app?
Adrian: Reeder, it puts all my rss feeds in one place. It’s like my own personal news source that updates itself automatically. It’s not free but it’s a better value than the NY Times.
Most addictive game?
Adrian: Civilization 5. Life-consuming is the right phrase.
If you were to be famous what would you like to be known for?
Adrian: Rescuing someone in need or doing something noble.
Would you ever be on a reality show? If yes, what kind?
Adrian: I rather not, but if someone would like to follow me around with a camera, go right ahead.

Adrian: I’d go to the jurassic period to ride some dinosaurs.
