An Interview with a Lunarpages Support Supervisor
Katrina Kane has been with Lunarpages for almost 7 years, working within Customer Service. She has an amazing lifestyle because she sustains her traveling lifestyle, whilst working remotely for Lunarpages.
What is your official job title here at LP?
Katrina: Customer Support Supervisor
Fill us in on your day to day tasks.
Katrina: Don’t you mean my night to night tasks? I manage the night shift support staff, work the upper desks and sales, restore files, monitor the forums, Facebook, and twitter pages, watch for tickets and trends that might signal server issues and notify our techs, write how-tos, and help out wherever I can with some specialized knowledge I have obtained from my own projects.
How long have you worked at Lunarpages?
Katrina: Hmmm. Seems like forever. Almost 7 years now I think.
Have you worked in any other departments at Lunarpages?
Katrina: No. Customer support is what I do and enjoy. There is nothing like taming a script bug or helping a customer keep on truckin’ down the information highway.
What did you do before Lunarpages? What made you decide to join our Family?
Katrina: I ran my own computer repair shop for 10 years. The opportunity with Lunarpages came up to work remotely with fun people and realize my life-long dream to hit the road as a full-time RVer and see the USA so I took it.
What makes Lunarpages special?
Katrina: The work and learning opportunities have been great along with their support of my chosen nomad lifestyle. I also like being with people who really do care about their customers, all their customers, and will go the extra mile when given a chance.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Katrina: Keeping the spammers out of the forums.
You have worked both day and night shifts, which is better and why?
Katrina: Night Shift Rulez! I hit my stride at 12 am not pm and while I don’t mind being up at 6am, I hate getting up at 6am.
The internet is also much faster at night for my work. Then there’s the play factor. Night shift+traveling between time zones lets me do and see much more than I could on day shift.
If you weren’t working here, where do you think you’d be?
Katrina: Tahiti? Or maybe back working at NASA again.
Do you find it challenging working and communicating online?
Katrina: Definitely. Getting a good Internet connection wherever I travel is not always easy, especially in the middle of the Everglades, the desert, the mountains, forests, and northern Maine. As far as the work goes, it is very interesting and keeps me hopping. I LOVE IT!
Who is the most fun to work with of all the LP crew?
Katrina: Randy Tarpley is always good for a laugh and Steven Priest has been lots of fun for years but I would have to say the Lunar Squirrels are the most fun.
We recently got you involved with supporting our social media (Twitter/Facebook). What do you like about that aspect of your job?
Katrina: Great learning experience and it lets me communicate with our customers in a more direct way.
Your situation is unique in that you travel all over the country in your RV while working and blogging your tales. Do you meet many other travelers on the road who also work remotely?
Katrina: I certainly do. You would be surprised. I have met online tutors, sales people, Ebayers, medical transcriptionists, and even the CEO of a trucking company who likes to travel and manage the company from a Class A motorhome with a huge satellite dish for Internet service.

How do you maintain a stable working internet connection on the road?
Katrina: Whenever possible, I try to use campgrounds that provide WIFI. I also have an aircard for 3G broadband and just got a smart phone with more 3G broadband that also acts like a MIFI hotspot. What really makes it all work though is the external roof mounted antennas to bring in better signal from outside my metal cocoon. When all else fails, I have been known to rent a motel room for the night just for their WIFI and move on to better pastures the next day.
What do you like to do in any other spare time you find?
Katrina: I like going to school online, geocaching, visiting museums and ships, driving 100 miles just to see the world’s largest frying pan for 10 minutes, going to Iowa just to play baseball on the Field of Dreams, dinner shows, doing things I have never done before like sailing on a 4 masted schooner, ziplining, whitewater rafting, racing potties and bathtubs, taking off in and landing the space shuttle (simulators), Redbox movies, puzzles, crocheting.

And now for some usual LP Fun, what (or who) is your favorite and why…
Phone App?
Katrina: LOL I just upgraded from a tin can and string to a smart phone. Cachemate geocaching app and Geocaching.com geocaching apps.
Song?
Katrina: Peanuts theme song
Cartoon character?
Katrina: Bugs Bunny
Movie?
Katrina: Down Periscope – I can’t help it. Kelsey is sooo funny and I’m a pirate too. Aaar!
Place to vacation?
Katrina: Hard to say since every weekend is a vacation for me and I have been to so many great places. Whole state of Florida I guess.
Season of the year?
Katrina: Spring. That is when my feet start itching to get back on the road again.
Website?
Katrina: My own DangRV.com of course. OK OK maybe RoadsideAmerica.com or RVTravel.com too.
