Lunar Picks – What is the BEST Prize you Ever Won?

In honor of the awesome iPad contest (I Love Lunarpages) we are currently running, this month’s Lunar Pick is:

What is the best prize you won in a contest and what did you have to do to win it?

Ben: The best prize I ever won in a contest goes back to the same year that I was born.  It was the Long Beach Baby Pageant of 1987, where babies are judged by our smiles, attention spans, a diaper-derby, and overall cuddliness.  I won first place in the Diaper Derby, and overall I took 2nd place – Champion Chubby.  The trophy I won is (hands-down) my most prized possession.

Zach: The best prize I ever won was free concert tickets to the red hot chili peppers. I had to be caller 98 for the radio station 98.7.

RAT: My band won the local ‘battle of the bands’ contest and we won a trip to Nashville, TN. to compete on a National TV show called ‘You Can Be A Star’ with Jim Ed Brown.

Amy: I used to be a contest junkie, especially local radio contests in Australia.  I actually won a job at the station for a couple of months, co-hosting a breakfast radio show and when it was over, they gave me a weekend away and we ended up in the penthouse suite of the Marriot (Michael Jackson had stayed there just a few weeks before)!

Orlando: Best Prize: Wife

What I did: 3.5 years hard labor dating, listened to the following comments:

“I don’t think my family likes you, but I do”

“my mom likes you but not my dad”

“my sisters don’t like you”

“one of them likes you now” you guys get it.

6 years later tomorrow “wait my family loves you but I’m not sure I do”

OMG…

Greg: I’ve never won anything…except the $6 on the lottery scratcher my friend gave me the other night, then I just gave it right back to him since it was his $.

Jay: I won $1000 in a radio contest and then went in the drawing for the $10,000 grand prize.  I had to let them do whatever they wanted to me, so they dressed me as a woman, waxed everything, tinted my eyelashes, had me in a pink sequin dress, feather boa and heels, and they dyed a blond strip through my hair.  There are photos in a magazine somewhere (hopefully destroyed by now).

Roy: There was a sales contest at my job over 10 years ago and I was the top sales winner for the store and I won a very nice mountain bike, 32” TV and other little prizes.  To this day, still have the bike and TV.

Joe: The best price that I won would be 1st place in badminton tournament during my 11th grade in high school.

I had to practice it with my father every evening (approximately about 3 hours per day).

Shawn: It’s always fun having to sweep through 15 – 20 people to take home 1st place on the weekly poker game. It’s usually about a $200 prize. Although that hasn’t happened for me for a while now  :(

Michael: Best one would have to be my Minnesota Vikings football (US football) helmet. Won it in a flag football tournament. The players on the winning team all got replica helmets of the team of their choice.

Ahmed: The best prize was $500 gift card from a sales job I had. We had a slow product and we were asked as a team  to increase the sales by 140%, I was the 1st sales person to meet the goal and exceed it by 15% bringing my sales to 155% increase for the product.

In 2005 I won the “Share Your Summer Shots” contest hosted by the Kodak Gallery. When I entered, I had uploaded a single image I liked, then forgotten all about it. But I won the grand prize, which was a week at the Cozumel Palace (all-inclusive) resort in Mexico, airfare included, and $5000 cash. I highly recommend the Palace Resorts!

I won a trip to Hawaii for my wife and myself in a national sand sculpture competition sponsored by Games Magazine. I had to send photos of my best sand sculptures. My wife was robbed of her grandmother’s ring in Hawaii during our trip but was nit injured. You can see my sculptures on my site (sandsong.com).

I won $50 in a photo contest. I took a black and white photograph, processed it in my own darkroom and entered it in a contest sponsored by the Fort Worth Star Telegram back around 1976.

Wow, this is an easy one! The best prize I ever won was LunarPages WebSite of the Month in February, 2009. I just asked folks to take a look-see at my site & vote. Of course, my husband, The WeddingMeister, is my all-time favorite “prize”.

My wife and I won an expenses-paid trip to a ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA. Only drawback…it was summer so no snow. It was a contest run by a local real estate office. All I had to do to win was to respond. (Yes, I eventually sold my home through that broker. She was very aggressive and got me an excellent deal.)

This July 4th my family decorated a pontoon boat to look like the Locke Ness Monster for an annual boat parade. We won first prize which was an Obrien Wake Tube!

My personal favorite was winning 1 year of web hosting from Lunarpages :) for putting tape on my glasses and taking a picture to show my love! woo hoo!
