Lunar Picks – What to do in Australia?

If you had a round trip to Australia, what sights would you want to see or what things would you like to do?  Our favorite resident Australians, Jay and Amy Armitage, are moving back to Australia this month, so we decided to ask this very question to the Lunarpages crew.

Here is what the Lunar-crew had to say:

Joe says, “Perhaps watching kangaroos and traveling around Sydney, and checking out the Great Barrier Reef.”

Katie says, “Take a lot of pictures all across the country.”

Tommy says, “I’d like to go sight seeing, visit the Great Barrier Reef and maybe a little taste testing of the local food too.”

Lydia says, “I would check out the rain forests!”

Orlando says, “Take a thrilling scenic helicopter flight to the Blue Mountains.”

Lee says, “I would slap on some sunnies and boardies and adopt a roo and koala bear.”

Aaron says, “I think I’d want to see the wildlife most of all.”

Mike says, “I would definitely like to just find a sandy beach and sit down and chill with an ice cold beer (or several), snorkel along a reef or do some fishing. I’d enjoy a visit to a Aussie pub, meet new people and call ‘em ‘Mate’. Maybe take a walk about and climb a kookaburra tree and see some koalas. I would definitely like to check out the worlds largest barometer, though that is a must-see.”

Flora says, “I’d like to fall under the spell of the Florence at Litchfield National.”

Daniel says, “I’d want to visit Uluru/Ayer’s Rock.”

Greg says, “First thing I will do when I ‘do’ go to Australia is grab my buddy Jay, head to the ocean and go deep sea fishing. Then do a little bodysurfing, go diving on the Great Barrier Reef and follow that up with a trip to the North and go catch some Barra. The trip will wrap up with some high quality time with some very special friends in their homeland!”

Mitch says, “Challenge the first kangaroo I see to a boxing match!”

Tony says, “If I had an option to visit Australia I would like to go camping in the outback like on Survivor Man.  But don’t get me wrong, I’m not eating bugs.  I would also like to visit the famous beaches down there as a second choice.”

Randy says, “Trek the Larapinta and Fall under the spell of Florence Falls otherwise go boating with Amy and drink beer bongs.”

Deb says, “I’d like to go on a whale watching & canal cruise from the Gold Coast.”

Matthew O says, “I would dance with the aborigines and scour the outback for epic landscape pictures!”

Roy says, “I would like to check out the Great Barrier Reef and hang out in the beautiful city of Sydney.  But first things first, I have to see if the water in a toilet bowl does rotate the opposite direction past the equator.”

Shawn says, “My absolute first activity would be to go bug Jay and Amy! Then if I am lucky I would try to hit the beaches; I hear they are great!”

Chad says, “First thing I would do is crack open an ice cold Carlton Cold with my favorite Aussies Jay and Amy!”

Stephen says, “I would like to climb up Ayers Rock.”

Elainna says, “I would like to see the outback and go walk about.”

Tiara says, “I would bug Amy and Jay for the best, most ‘Aussie’ things to do, and probably just take in the amazing natural landscape and beaches–I hear they are absolutely beautiful!”

How about you? What would you like to do if you could spend a week or two in the land down under?  Let us know your ideas or give your feedback on what some of our support members picked in the  comments.

Hey, I’m a Lunar customer who spent six months camping alone in the Australian outback (I’m a woman, too!). My first novel is set there. In Message Stick, Gabriel Branch searches the outback for his best friend. He must face a murderous shaman and the Aboriginal heritage he lost long ago. The book has won two national awards and is sold…where else? On the Lunar hosted website!

Make sure you allow plenty of time, a lot of people don’t realise Australia is the same size as the USA and many tourists plan too many things to do in too little time…exhausted by the end of their trip!

Also, if you are flying from Los Angeles into Sydney or Brisbane fly on V Australia they are a fantastic airline and heaps cheaper than other airlines. You can use Virgin to fly internally too, very similiar to JetBlue in the US.

Hey, I’m a Lunar Pages Aussie customer and I recommend coming to a place called Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. It’s a mining town with a population of around 36,000. We have over 36 pub here though! Some open at six in the morning and most of them have skimpy bar maids!! :)
