What is Keepit?

Keepit is a company that believes in making the online backing up process simple, secure and automatic.  The goal is to provide unlimited storage for everybody.  Now how are they able to achieve such a goal?  They refine their backup offers, making them the easiest to use as well as requiring the least amount of effort (on your part) to enjoy.

Now that is a key point that I can not stress enough.  If you make the backing up process difficult or time consuming, nobody is going to do it.  So let me explain to you how Keepit works.

How Does Keepit Work?

After signing up, you install the Keepit client to your personal computer.  Once that has been done – the first time you start Keepit’s client up you will be asked to save your digital key.  This is an assurance for you, to guarantee that you are the only one who will have access to your files that are encrypted on the server side.  It is really easy to configure as well.  You can easily set the client to watch or un-watch certain file or folders.  Once you have selected the files you want to backup, your part in this is done.  Keepit does the rest of it for you.

By default, Keepit will backup every single day.  However, if you need to setup your scheduling a different way – they are flexible enough to meet your needs.  You can configure yourself which days Keepit should backup.

Your connection to Keepit is not a one way street either.  If, for example, you had Internet problems when uploading – Keepit will just take a different route.  If your backup is interrupted due to a lost connection, the desktop client is smart enough to know and will halt the transfer request until your Internet connection is back to normal.

How to Use Keepit?

For those of you who maybe new to the Keepit program, here is what you want to do after you have installed it on your computer.  You will want to double-click the desktop icon (or launch it from your start menu).  Once there, click on the “Account” tab and put in your login information:

Next, you will want to the “Settings” tab, which will allow you to select which folders you want to backup and when you want to back them up (Monday – Sunday).  Via the Simple View, you can see your Personal and Common folders to backup, and if you select “Advanced View” you can select more specific files and folders to backup.  So Keepit will let you get as details with your backup as you need.  Click the “Backup Now” button to start your first backup!

To restore the files you have backed up, visit the “Restore” tab.  From here you can see the latest backup, view all the backups, restore the latest backup, or select and restore individual files.  By default, files will be restored to you desktop, but you can also change that destination too.

How Secure is Keepit?

Security is a big concern when it comes to online backups.  How secure is Keepit?  As I mentioned before, your files are encrypted.  This will prevent anybody other than yourself from seeing your backed up photos, music, documents and more.  Backups are also stored in two different locations.  Both facilities synchronize with each other too.  So even if something happened to one of your backups with them, the other would be perfectly fine.  It is almost like backing up your backup.

How Are File Restores Done?

Restoring your files can also be done via the Keepit desktop client.  If you restore your files to a new PC, you will need to install the Keepit software there first.  After you login, and import your private digital key you should be ready to restore.  You can pick a backup to restore under the client’s “Restore” tab.  Couldn’t be any easier!
