If you are following along in this LPQuicksite Tutorial Series on Adding Advanced Website Features to your LPQuicksite, you have probably already added a website counter and are watching your visitors roll through. Now let’s get into something which many new webmasters will be thrilled about – creating email accounts!

Remember, this is Part 2 of the 5-Part tutorial series, so if you have any comments, suggestions, questions, or recommendations for future segments, please just let us know:

  • Adding Counters
  • Creating Email Accounts
  • Enabling Auto Responders
  • Adding Contact Forms
  • Forwarding Email

Having a professional email account is important for every business, but did you know that it is also good to have one for personal websites? After all, if someone stumbles across your blog or website, would you rather have them email anonymous_lady98701@yahoo.com or YourName@YourPersonalSite.com? The latter option is much more approachable. Even in my own personal experience, I’d much rather give out my Lunarpages-hosted email address than one of my AOL or Yahoo ones – it looks better and doesn’t make me feel embarrassed. ;)

2. Creating Email Accounts

For the purposes of this tutorial, let’s use MyBusinessSite.com as your main domain name, and we’ll use my name, Tiara, for the owner.

So the first step in creating an email address would be to login to the actual control panel for LPQuicksite by visiting http://www.account.lunarpages.com

Click on the icon to access your control panel and then the button that says “Go to cPanel” .

Once you are logged into your control panel, you will see a variety of icons, all of which will assist you in managing your email accounts and addresses. For the purpose of this short tutorial, you’ll want to click on “Email Accounts”:

From here, adding a new email address is a cinch! There are 4 white boxes you will need to fill in.

Box 1 – This is where you’ll type your email address name. For example, if you wanted to have the email address Tiara@MyBusinessSite.com, I would enter “Tiara” in the first box next to the word “Email”.

Box 2 – This is where you’ll create a password to access your email. Choose something with both upper and lowercase letters as well as numbers to ensure the security of your account. So if your name is Tiara Rea, don’t use the password “tiararea”. ;) If you’re having trouble, we’ve even included a handy little “Generate Password” button, which will auto-generate a unique and secure password for you. Just make sure you write it down!

Box 3
– It’s your lucky day, because you only have to retype your password here.

Box 4 – This is your Mailbox Quota. Most likely, you won’t need to even touch this box, as it should already have “250 MB” there. 250 MB is 250 megabytes, which is a good amount of email storage space by default. If you are worried that you’ll need more space, you can choose a higher amount. Let’s say 300 MB.

Your finished email application should look something like this:

Once you click on the “Create” button, your email account is created and ready for use! Your login to access webmail should be emailname+domainname.com. So from the above example, my login username would be tiara+mybusinesssite.com.

The instructions will ask if you’d like help ‘configuring the account to work with a mail client (Outlook, Mai.app)’ and you can choose yes or no, depending on your needs. For example, I use Microsoft Outlook to access my email, so I’m more likely to click “yes” than if I simply wanted to read my email via webmail, in which case I’d click “no”.

Next month, we’ll enable and set up an auto responder for this email account.

This LPQuicksite makes setting up email accounts very easy, but can one collect emails in an application other than Outlook? I do not use this program and am unlikely ever to do so.

  5. Lunartics Tiara Says:

Hi Robert – Yes, definitely! We can help you get your Outlook setup if you’re nervous about that, or you can always use Webmail, forward your mail to gmail or yahoo, etc. I prefer Outlook because once you figure it out, it’s very professional and does get easier to work with. ;) But if you’d prefer webmail, there’s zero setup time for that – it comes ready to go with your LPQuicksite account.

Please don’t hesitate to send sales@lunarpages.com an email with questions if you’re interested or reply here and we’ll help you out.
