Parallels Workstation

By Mitch Keeler

If you find yourself having to use Windows, but you’d rather be using Linux you can do it all on one single PC. The software that can make this geeky dream in to a reality is Parallels. This software allows you to run both side by side without any fuss.

I mentioned geeky before, but you do not have to be a geek to get a lot of of this product. The install is easy to use and very intuitive. It also take advantage of full hardware virtualization. That means you won’t have to worry about running one at a crawl, and the other at high speeds. The package is also very flexible and you can have a choice of operating systems to use with it, including Windows, Linux, OS/2, eComStation and more. The virtual machine environment also acts stable way to run another operating system while not being at risk for any of that operating system’s flaws.

There is no better way to run multiple operating systems at the same time. Run Windows, Linux and more side-by-side on a single PC without rebooting with Parallels.

What are the advantages of using Parallels?

The best advantage that it gives you is the ability to do testing in more than one operating system.

Is it possible to access a physical partition or HDD from a Parallels Workstation 2.2 virtual machine?

At the moment you can share the files or directories by means of primary OS via SMB or FTP and then access them from the Virtual Machine via the network. Direct mounting of the physical partitions into the Virtual Machine is in scope for future versions of Parallels Workstation.

Actually Parallels gave us Workstation free to all LP webmasters, but because we know we have a lot of MAC users also, they agreed to provide Parallels Desktop (MAC) at 30% off for Lunarpages customers.

I’m with Jessica on this one. I don’t see anything on the page that tells me that it is related to Lunarpages aside from the “Lunarpages Registration” as a heading in the main content area. The rest of that area is blank and the only active links on the page are the ones that are on all their other pages.

  • Ken

Looks like they fixed the page. It now has the form for registering.

    Yeah, this doesn’t work.
