In Depth with LPQuicksite: Menu Ordering
Author: Tiara Rea
Last month I went over in brief detail about setting up your first website using one of our newest web hosting plans, LPQuicksite. I want to show this plan in a bit more detail, as our developers are adding more templates and more features every day. It’s a great platform for those of you who are new to ‘web hosting’ and just want to get your website online and make it look amazing.
So here is my first LPQuicksite Tutorial regarding Menu Ordering – you can follow along or try it out for yourself by trying our LPQuicksite Demo!
For this simple overview, we’ll use the example of running a personal website for yourself, your hobbies, and pictures for your family and friends.
Menu Ordering
Menu ordering is very important for business websites to help your customers find what they need ASAP. For personal websites, it’s just a great deal of fun, as you can play with the order of your web pages and include them as tabs your friends and family can click on at the top of every page.
Step 1: Creating Pages in LPQuicksite
First, you’ll need to add actual pages to your website. To do this, login and click on Content > Manage Pages.
From there, you have the option to Edit an Existing Page or Add New Page. Clicking on Add New Page will promp you to select your page type.
A “page type” is just asking what this page will be about. For example, one page might be for your Contact information while another explains your Personal Biography. For your ease, we include some commonly-used page types, such as an “About Us” page. If you want to create something new, just click on Custom > OK.
Now you should see a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor page. You’ll first want to name your page. For this example, we’ll go with “My Family History”, a page I’m designing about my own family to show them and my friends. So I title the page “My Family History”. For the filename field, this just shows exactly where your page will end up online (like www.yourwebsite.com/familyhistory.html). You can either choose your own file name (i.e. familyhistory.html) or you can let our autotext insert the proper words for you (i.e. for that example, it offered my_family_history.html).
Now use the blank box below to create your web page! It works just like Microsoft Word, where you can input text, pictures, links, and even smiley faces with ease! Once you’re done, just click Add and you’ll see a preview of your work exactly as it will appear online!
Once you have created multiple webpages, you can order them as they show up in your website’s menu. For example, you will probably want to create a Homepage, About Me page, and Contact page at least. Beyond that, you can have a Blog page, Gallery page, and anything else you’d like.
Step 2: Ordering Pages in Your Menu
Once you are ready to order your menu, visit Design > Re-order Menu:
From there, you can simply click on the name of the page you want to appear in the menu and drag it over to the right-hand column called My Menu, where you’ll drop it. The order you choose here will be the same way it appears on your website! So if you’re working on My Family History and don’t want it to show up on your site, leave it under Available Pages and it won’t be seen on your website.
Ordering your menu can be fun and even profitable for new businesses! And LPQuicksite makes it as easy as possible to edit the tabs for your menu in no time!
Next month, I’ll go over some more amazing LPQuicksite features for this tutorial series.
