Lunarpages Staff Interview: Nick Cummins
Author: Tiara Rea
Most of us here at Lunarpages wear a variety of hats around the office. I answer sales calls, tend to our wonderful base of affiliates, and work with Amy on a lot of marketing and campaign management. Amy herself does just about everything, and our sales and support staff can often handle some billing and other various issues that come up. We just all like to pitch in and help when help is needed; plus, that makes it easier to handle overflow and assist as many customers as possible.
For our staff interview this month, I thought it would be nice to talk to someone who I know very well and who some of you guys may have even spoken with…though I kind of hope not, as he handles a lot of the bad stuff like abuse investigation.
At any rate, he’s one of the hardest workers here at LP and does just about everything he can to help us all out!
Hi Nick! Thanks for taking the time to interview. Just curious, what is your official Lunarpages job title besides Awesome Technical Dude?
Abuse Department Supervisor and Technical Support Supervisor.
(In other words, Nick is uber important!)
How long have you worked for Lunarpages?
I’ve actually been here over 4 years!
What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t working here? Besides crying and being generally heartbroken about it of course.
Probably flying around the world in a jet if I was independently wealthy, though realistically, I can’t say what I would be doing (I am boring, huh?).
Where did you work prior to Lunarpages and what made you choose this job instead?
I worked at Best Buy at the time. The atmosphere and overall friendliness of Lunarpages made me decide to apply here.
(Me too! I was sold when I walked in and saw people wearing shorts)
What do your daily tasks include here at LP?
In the morning, I open the La Habra call center up, and throughout the day I resolve sensitive escalated issues and work with the staff to ensure support and abuse related issues are resolved. Whether that’s through email, phone, or occasionally through the forums, I handle almost all of the escalated issues for tech support and every abuse-related concern.
Way off-topic, are you a gamer or, as is popular around here, WOWer?
Yep! I play a game called EVE, which is a bit of a older game, but I’ve been at it for about 2 years or so now. I haven’t actually even tried WOW or seen how it is played. ::shock::
(GASP)
What do you do in your free time?
Kayak, surf, cars and flyfishing.
You take a lot of customer support calls here at LP. Got any funny customer stories?
I have taken quite a few over the years; everything you could imagine from the extreme to the mundane. The funny ones have to be where someone calls up, starts talking (quite vigorously) and then abruptly stops and realizes it’s something simple on there end like IE not being connected to the Internet.
Have you lived in California all your life?
Nope, though I am from CA. I have spent time in England, Ireland, Scotland, New South Whales, Australia and New Zealand. I came back to CA because its where family is.
If you could work remotely from any place in the world, where would it be and why?
Would not mind a tropical island but that would not be all that practical, so it would have to be a tie between England or New Zealand.
Where do you plan to spend your holidays this year?
With my extended family eating way too much food.
(LOL That sounds like the perfect holiday to me)
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done in your life?
This would have to be a tie between driving at 215 mph in an extremely overpriced car and deciding it would be a good idea to fly a small plane from Los Angles to Phonex…only to have total electronics failure mid way (over the middle of the desert)!
(Geez…I was thinking staying up past bedtime, but gosh…)
What’s the craziest thing you plan to do?
Would like to build a airplane and fly it around a bit!
And for a bit more fun, do you prefer…
Money or power?
Money
Pick Up Stix or PF Changs?
Chain food is never as good as the smaller places, so PF Changs.
Winter or Summer?
Winter as it really never gets cold here in Southern California.
Driving or walking?
Driving (if it’s a fast car)
Snowboarding or skateboarding?
Snowboarding in fresh powder. Surfing should have been an option, too!
Nintendo or Sony?
Nintendo as Sony will void your warranty if you have excessive dust :X
Mac or PC?
Linux !!!! But for home use, a PC for games and simplicity
Relaxing on a Friday night or partying all weekend?
Relaxing = winner
Once again, I’d like to thank Nick for participating as this month’s victim in our Staff Interviews. It’s always great to find out some interesting stories about our staff here at LP…especially when they race around at 200mph. Tisk, tisk.

Ok is it just me or are all the staff at LP good looking babes?

I love reading these staff interviews, and I agree with Ningihali - what’s the deal with all your good-looking staff over there? I’m almost ready to put in a job app.
