Fantastico the Magnificent

Author: Mitch Keeler

There is one tool that probably gets more attention than the rest at Lunarpages as far as your hosting account goes. The other I hear are even a little jealous of its popularity. Fantastico is hands down one of the neatest addition to your cPanel.

Installable Scripts at Your Fingertips

If your new to webmastering or you just want to have an easier way to go about installing scripts, Fantastico is a wonderful solution. You can find it in your control panel by clicking on the Fantastico link after logging into cPanel itself.

Once you get inside on the left to see a slew of scripts you can install right onto your web hosting space. You could make any one of these apart of your web site. By clicking on the “Installation Overview” link around the bottom of the page you can see all the things you have installed too.

Getting Going

For an example, lets click on WordPress shall we? After doing that the right frame changes and lets you know your about to install one of the Web’s most popular blogging scripts out there. Click on “New Installation” and you’ll be taken to a screen with a few settings to fill out.

This is about as complicated as it gets. You just put in your name, your address, where you want it installed and more. That Fantastico interface makes the process almost brain dead simple. Fill that out and hit the “Install WordPress” button. Your done.

To Uninstall, all you have to do is click on the scripts name again (for our example, it would be WordPress) in the left script list and click “Remove”. So you can always get rid of a script if it doesn’t suit your exact needs.

Stay Up To Date

Clicking on the “Email Notifications” link in Fantastico will allow you to enter your e-mail address so you can get notifications for installations and removals or leave empty if you don’t wish to receive any reminders.

Great tutorial Mitch especially the part about the email notifications. I’m going to make sure that’s ticked right now.

Definitely helpful Mitch. I’m still trying to learn about all the things LP offers!
